Quick answer
All three are over-ear ANR headsets with Bluetooth and dual GA plugs. The differences that decide it: TSO, glasses fit, how many Bluetooth devices you pair, warranty, and price.
Specs from each maker’s own pages. Amazon prices and stock checked Oct 29, 2026, about 11:44 PM ET; prices change, so use the button for the live price. No Prime-only prices were showing for these listings.
Weights are each maker’s own figures. Lightspeed’s Zulu 4 data sheet lists 14.9 oz; its product-page spec table shows 14.6 oz. Either way the Zulu 3 (14.6 oz) and Zulu 4 weigh about the same. Bose lists the A30 at 14.2 oz on head. Amazon prices are for the dual GA plug versions linked here.
Zulu 4 vs Zulu 3: what changed
From Lightspeed’s two product pages. Warranty, plug options and the 2× AA power are the same on both, and weight is about the same (14.6–14.9 oz).
Ear seals: Zulu 4 has new FrameFit tapered-foam seals for glasses, sunglasses and hats. Zulu 3 has tapered performance seals.
Bluetooth: Zulu 4 connects two devices at once and adds upstream noise reduction on Bluetooth calls (up to 90%, per Lightspeed). Zulu 3 connects one.
Mic and cable: Zulu 4 has a 10% longer mic boom and a longer upper cable.
Recording: Zulu 4 records over Bluetooth with the Lightspeed Aviation App. Zulu 3 uses FlightLink with a patch cable.
Price: $1,099 versus $949 on Amazon on Oct 29 (Lightspeed list matches those street prices on prior checks).
Zulu vs Bose A30: what differs
TSO: the A30 is FAA TSO and EASA E/TSO-C139a certified. Lightspeed says the Zulu 3 is not, and its Zulu 4 page lists no TSO. Lightspeed notes TSO is not required for GA pilots; some operators specify it.
ANR control: the A30 has three selectable noise-cancellation modes. Lightspeed’s Zulu 3 vs A30 article says the Zulu 3 runs a single, highest ANR level; the Zulu 4 page lists no mode selector.
Warranty: 7 years on both Zulus, 5 years on the A30.
Build: Lightspeed lists magnesium ear cups and a stainless-steel headband. Bose lists a 14.2 oz on-head weight and 20% less clamping force than the A20.
Wired A30: Amazon also lists a wired A30 with no Bluetooth at the same $1,299. The button on this page goes to the Bluetooth version.
Weight: 14.6 oz with ear seals and mic boom (Lightspeed)
Noise control: Active noise reduction (ANR); magnesium ear cups
Bluetooth: Single Bluetooth connection plus a wired aux input
Fit: Tapered performance ear seals; Lightspeed says they give a better seal around glasses frames; taller head pads at no extra charge for smaller heads
Power: 2× AA; Auto Shutoff; LEMO panel-power version
Plugs: Dual GA (this listing), LEMO panel power, U-174
TSO: Not TSO-authorized (Lightspeed’s Zulu 3 vs A30 article)
Warranty: 7-year limited; 30-day money-back guarantee from Lightspeed
Recording: FlightLink app via the supplied patch cable
Listed price (Oct 29, 2026): $949.00 · Only 5 left · confirm live seller
$949 on Amazon on Oct 29: $150 under the Zulu 4 and $350 under the A30
14.6 oz with ear seals and mic boom, and the same 7-year warranty as the Zulu 4
Lightspeed also sells Certified Pre-Owned Zulu 3 units ($787 on lightspeedaviation.com)
Lightspeed’s Zulu 4 product page lists no TSO, and Lightspeed’s own Zulu 3 vs A30 article says the Zulu 3 is not TSO-authorized. If an operator requires TSO-C139a, the A30 is the one of these three that has it.
Do any of them run on aircraft power?
Yes. All three come in 6-pin LEMO panel-power versions. The links on this page are for dual GA plugs, the usual fit in training and piston aircraft.
Can I return one if it does not fit?
Lightspeed offers a 30-day money-back guarantee when you buy from Lightspeed. On Amazon, the seller’s return policy applies; recheck the live seller on each listing (Oct 29 stock: Zulu 4 Only 20 left, Zulu 3 Only 5 left, A30 In Stock). For the broader GA lineup including Sierra and in-ear options, see GA aviation headsets.
How do glasses and FrameFit factor in?
Lightspeed markets FrameFit ear seals on the Zulu 4 for glasses and hats. Zulu 3 uses tapered performance seals that Lightspeed says help around frames. Bose markets lower clamp force on the A30 versus the A20. None of that replaces a fit check; use a return window when you can.
Specs come only from each maker’s own product pages and data sheets, listed below. Prices and stock come from Amazon on Oct 29, 2026, about 11:44 PM ET.
